Ceramic glaze is a thin glass-like coating that’s applied to a ceramic surface before it’s fired in a kiln. It gives the cup its color, texture, and makes it food-safe and waterproof.
The glaze is made by blending three main ingredients:
-
Silica – the glass former.
-
Alumina – adds strength and controls how the glaze flows.
-
Fluxes – help the glaze melt at the right temperature.
To this base, we add natural minerals and oxides for color — like iron for earthy tones or copper for green shades.
Once applied, the cup is fired at high temperatures. In the kiln, the glaze melts, fuses to the ceramic, and forms a smooth, durable surface.
At Ceramora, we only use non-toxic, food-safe glazes — free from lead and harmful chemicals. Just natural materials, fired to perfection.
