Most ceramic cups look fine on a shelf. Quality shows up in the details.
Start with weight and density. A good cup feels solid, not hollow. Check for cracks — especially hairline ones near the rim and base.
Flip it over. The bottom should be smooth and stable, without sharp edges that scratch tables or hands.
Look at the rim. It should be intentional. Too sharp is uncomfortable. Too thick kills aroma and changes how the coffee hits your mouth.
Shape and size matter, but for cafés — and for daily use — durability matters most. A cup that chips easily isn’t premium, no matter how good it looks.
Good ceramics aren’t loud. They’re reliable.
